Stuff I Learned From My Wrinkle Cream

Now, if you read my previous blog, and you saw that I’ve been married for 21 years, you might have jumped to the conclusion that I’m older than most of you babies out there.  But actually, I’m from one of those compounds in Texas and I got married when I was 12.  Not really … I was 20.  You do the math.

So, how does a girl like me survive in a world obsessed with staying young?  I admit … I have my fair share of “creams” and “lotions” that promised they would “reduce the signs of aging”.  But, I stumbled on the coolest verse today!  Psalm 103:5 says that the Lord satisfies our desires with good things so that our … (get this!) … “youth is renewed …”.  HA!  The cosmetic industry’s got nothin’ on God!

Now, while I would love to think that this verse means that God can “renew my youth” by magically erasing the sun damage from my tan-obsessed teen years, or erase those laugh lines that I inherited from my mother (thanks, mom!) … I know that God is telling me something much deeper than my wrinkles!  This whole chapter is a message of comfort!

When we hit a spiritual wall (and we all do!), God wants to pour Himself into us in a way that will leave us renewed!  If you’re like me, and you have days where you feel discouraged, disappointed, or just plain cranky … rest on the comfort of knowing that God wants to erase those signs of wear in our hearts and minds.  All we’ve got to do is …… let him.  Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:16 that, “though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are renewed day by day.”

Sounds easy enough!  But often we choose not to let Him renew us.  Not sure why … is it because we’re stubborn, or just plain stupid?  There are so many things that God promises … and we ignore.  Take Matthew 6:33 for example.  Jesus said that if we seek him first, we’ll have everything we need …. And yet we continue to put him second, third, fourth ….. sometimes last!

Next time you’re feeling tired (or old) ~ either physically, mentally, or spiritually ~ do a list exam.  Where is God on your list?  If He’s anywhere other than #1, don’t expect much.  But, on the days where you put Him first … look out!  You can expect and observe and experience an amazing renewal take place.  And better yet, those around you (especially those closest to you) will see the results!

Speaking of results … excuse me while I go apply my new Retinol-anti-wrinkle-cell-renewal-7-minute-vitamins-A-C-and-E-super-emollient face cream.  Wrinkles, beware!
